Frederick hammersley was born in 1919 and died in 2009, He was an American abstract painter . He studied at art the chouinard art school in 1940 where he studied everything from figures to lettering. Sadly his art was put on a hold as he was sent to war in Germany, France, and England. Luckily near the end of his service he was stationed in Paris where he got to study at an art school there were he managed to meet Picasso and Braque. In 1947 he returned to his town were he continued his art studies for another three years.

Hammersley work is fun and colourful. He used a mixture of colours and shapes to create bold interesting designs. His work has bold contrasting shapes and lines through the combination of straight and curved edges which adds interest to the pictures. His paintings are quite simple however really effective.
