For my conceptual brief i chose to use a found object of a old fashioned looking battery operate clock from tiger. I used this clock from my photographers however, a couple days of having the clock i broke it. I managed to bend one of the hands from the inside so the clock hands barley move. I found this amusing and almost ironic due to the theme of nothing lasting forever and time will eventually stop. I wanted to explore sound for my project as its not something im that comfortable with but thought it would put across my idea the best. When people get that rally annoying ringing sound in their ear that’s what a clock sounds like to me. I hear the ticking in my head and can almost feel it around my body. Its like the pumping of my heart becomes the ticking and my heart becomes the clock. people do say “your heart is a ticking time bomb”

After my tutorial with my lecure which was helpful we both agreed video work should be my next step in development. I wanted to start looking into the sound of the clock and what that sound means to me and how does it make me feel. For my video i recored my broken clock in the studios on my phone and then edited the video on the computer. I got rid of the ausio from my clip and overplayed it with a high pitch dog wistle. What does this mean? this broken clock actually inspirated quite a lot. It was as time its self had stopped. It links to the idea that when you watch the clock it doesn’t move. My video makes you focus on the clock which really makes that idea stand out as my lock ws ironically broken so wouldn’t move. The video also represents that nothing lasts forever, not just because my clock broke but also time its self. Eventually everything will end if we like it or not. It something we as humans need to accept. Watching my clip on repeat also brought the idea to me that the broken clock represents reliving the moment. Its like time has stopped and we are stuck in time. This links to our memories and how we use our memories to relives and remember those times in our life whch mean a lot to us. We relive those moments to cheer us up or to remember a certain place or someone we will never see again. I think the symbolism f the broken clock is beautiful and in a way a clock is like our brain and our memories. Finally going into the creation of my video i wanted to show the irritation the sound of the sound of the clock has on me. For other people it would be the sound of nails on a chalk board that annoys them or ringing in the ear. But for me the sound which drives me crazy is the clock. I hate they sound and think it completely consumes you until that’s all you can hear and focus on.
