The clock and the lasting 24 hours by Christian Marclay

One very well-known piece of conceptual art by Christian marclay, the piece is an installation collage of film clips of clocks in colour and black and white. The 24-hour video shows a range of clips of clocks, watches, sundials and alarms with a voice over of people calling out what time it is. The video gained a lot of notice since it was released in 2010. The video makes the viewer watch the clock, focusing on the look, the sound and time itself.

The idea of the clock came when Marclay was in new York when he was working a a piece called “ video score” I he wanted to mark the time and create a way or remembering that time I his life and thought he could do that through clocks. Marclay asked “could I find every minute in 24-hours?” Marclay started the project in London in 2007. He got a team full of workers to go through hundreds of films finding clips. He thought about the hours from midnight to daytime and how they are the most mysterious and hidden parts of the clocks.

What does it mean?

The idea and the concept behind the clock is that you will never have enough time to see it all .It is a message of acceptance, Some people are frustrated and feel like they need to watch the whole 24-hours of the video. Marclay believes you need to enjoy what you can and when you need to go, go.
