Edinburgh sculpture workshop – installations

For our final day of the sculpture workshop in leith we were focusing on installation. Installation is something I’ve never done and it’s something I didn’t really know to much about so I went it to it almost clueless.

We started our morning with a little power point looking at installations and artists who are know for their installation. I found this really inserting and it was a really helpful way seeing what installation is and the different ways artists use it.

After the power point we completely cleared the work ship we were in, we lifted everything outside so we would be the only things standing in the room. once it was all cleared we took some time to really focus on the space around us, trying to take in all the sounds, lighting and shapes of the room. The room was all white with high walls so the room felt very open and nothing was distracting you.

We then got into small groups of three

We then got into a larger group of 6 people and done the same thing taking it in turns to place objects, however this time we were allowed to remove objects or move them around with out talking. This was probably my favourite installation we done as a group as I think it’s really interesting to look at and we could go in and around the installation to get a different view and angles.

To conclude the installation day I did enjoy it , it was something completely different for me which was nice because it got me out of my comfort zone. Looking back over the week I really enjoyed the workshop. I think the clay worship was my favourite and is something I would live to do again.
