2D practice – working with text

Going through the 2d practice brief and working through the workshops I want to take a turn in my work. I wasn’t really happy with the way my work was headed and wanted to change that. I want my work to have a meaning and send a strong message and looking back on my paintings and colleges I think they lack purpose. I want to focus on text working along side political imagery to create something bold and powerful. I want my work to have a political element to highlight the fact that politics is everywhere. As an individual I don’t know a lot about politics, I don’t really understand what said in the news or printed in the newspaper all I know is its everywhere. It’s one of the worlds many obsessions or addictions. I want to show that even if you don’t know a lot bout Brexit or the different party’s politics is still all around you and has an impact on your life. I want to produce political art from an outsiders prospective.

I was really inspired by the work of Barbra krugger focusing on bold dramatic text over imagery from magazines. Krugger has a iconic style in her work using red text over a black and white image to make the text pop. The images in Kruggers work were often very different to the text which gave the piece collectively a completely different meaning to make a point. Kruggers work was very politicaly forward, she wanted her work to make a scene which is something I want to do through my work.

I wanted I produce some pieces of art in the iconic Krugger style and I am really happy with the way them turned out, I used images of political debates and of Tump giving and speech. I think the chosen images with the punch lines work really well together and almost gives you that shock feeling and really makes you stop and think which is what I want my work to do.
