2D practices- printing

Day two of our 2Dpractice workshops. Today we were experimenting with the three different types of printing; lino, screen and mono printing.

We started with screen printing, before we could start printing we had to prepare the design we want to print, using paint i had to paint some shapes and marks onto sheets of acetate. I wanted to continue looking at them the theme of contrast and division so used  mixture of straight lines, curved edges and circles. I wanted to capture the different brush stokes and textures buy using a dry brush and dragging it through the paint and waiting for the pint to dry and using the back of the brush to scratch away the paint.

This was the first time i have ever done screen printing and i really enjoyed it, I love the whole process of mixing your ink, transferring your drawing onto the screens then applying the ink to the paper. I found the process very relaxing and was really happy with the results. I love how flat the prints look as if the

We then went on to doing lino prints. I had also never done lino before so wasn’t too sure if i would enjoy it or be good at it. Stilling looking at contrast i used a mixture of line and shape exploring the use of threes. With lino you have to be very light handed and delicate which can be quite hard. I found it quite hard to achieve a circle when cutting the line with the knife however think it worked quite well. We were given one sheet of lino A4 size so i had to think about what designs i wanted making the use of what i have. I chose to cut the lino in quarters then half two of those quarters to create miny lino prints which i think worked really well.
